Meet Our Counselors
Dr. Karen Capone, LPC, BCC
While I have a history working with most types of clients and diagnosis. My best work is with those struggling to find that 'missing piece' to feeling great. I love deep insight work and adding creative approaches to therapy and coaching that takes people from simply being to thriving. Regardless of the treatment, client safety is the foundation to all of my work. When people feel grounded, heard and comfortable, healing and growth occur.

I grew up in WV, where I got a bachelors degree in Sociology at Shepherd College. Prior to moving to PA and getting my Graduate Degree in Mental Health Counseling, I was a worked at a hospital, and at multiple other locations as a social worker, case manager and crisis worker. My experience includes severe mental illness, child abuse, domestic violence, and substance abuse, just to name a few. After graduating, I worked in Harrisburg at a community agency and slowly transitioned into private practice in Carlisle.

Over the past decade, I have continued to add to my counselor toolbox by attending numerous trainings, obtaining more certifications, and finishing doctoral work in Counselor Education and Supervision. My work is now transitioning to adjunct teaching, supervision, and holistic coaching.

Are you having difficulty making decisions, expressing your emotions, or struggling to improve your personal relationship(s)? Working toward change can be challenging. I view the therapeutic alliance as a collaborative and empowering process best accomplished when the client feels safe to explore and challenge current mal-adaptive cognitive and behavioral patterns. This is accomplished through a variety of therapeutic techniques grounded in Cognitive Behavioral, Reality, and Rogerian dispositions. Evenings preferred.

My intention as a therapist is to provide a safe and comfortable space to support your journey of healing and self-discovery. I believe that the therapeutic relationship works best when it is built on a foundation of trust and authenticity, providing an ideal environment to explore emotions, create strategies to manage life's stressors, and to enhance your overall health and wellbeing. I view each individual through a holistic lens, combining mindfulness-based techniques, a person-centered approach, and believe in the mind-body connection. Yoga can also be added to sessions as a way to process emotions and to address self-care.
Prior to attending Shippensburg University for clinical mental health counseling, I enjoyed a 20-year career in the field of occupational therapy. I have experience working with complex medical issues. I am also a certified yoga teacher, I specialize in counseling caregivers and healthcare workers, multicultural counseling, and am an LGBTQ+ ally.
Please note that I do not treat intense mental health difficulties, primarily work with adults, and I work under the supervision of Dr. Karen Capone, LPC, BCC. I have passed the National Counselor Exam and am working towards licensure in the state of Pennsylvania. Email is the best way to contact me to schedule an appointment. I would love to hear from you!
